Friends of mine recently returned from their trip to Oaxaca. They talked all about how beautiful it was and showed me the wonderful art that they purchased in some art gallery or another. I was given brochures to admire and photos to relish. They told me of traveling to Chiapas and being worried for their safety because of “the rebels.” They told me all of this at their

home, and presented me with my very own piece of art from Oaxaca along with a bookmark and postcard featuring the lovely Frida Kahlo. Despite being grateful for these gifts, I was sad to hear that no mention was made of Brad Will from either one of them. I asked my friends, if perhaps there was a memorial, a sign, a plaque, a piece of graffiti even. But alas, nothing. Nothing to commemorate a life that was lost there. Nothing to remind the world of Brad Will.
He was an anarchist, a performer, an activist, a journalist and a filmmaker. He was shot and killed during the teacher’s strike in Oaxaca. Authorities were responsible for this shooting. You would think that something would be left. To remind the world of him.
Has the world forgotten?
